Publicación "Creative Tourist"

When reading through gently shifting stacks of press releases in preparation for the Cultural Calendar 2015, this was one of the events that was passed, in quiet awe, around the office: an installation at The Lowry of 1,000 giant ants, 50cm long, each made from two human skull casts. Created by Columbian sculptor Rafael Gomezbarros, Casa Tomada is part artwork, part political statement; it is a way of representing undocumented immigrants and migrant workers around the world, a way of making visible the presence and issues of people often ignored by society – and of arguing for their contribution to it.
